Brave new world!

According to reports from last week, Facebook is working on technologies that will allow to convert thoughts into text on a computer screen. Unbelievable, isn’t it?

Which sounds like a dream for secret services is already a partial reality for disabled persons, who are able to express themselves using similar, early-stage technology.

The marketing opportunities may be enormous, if 100 words can be written in a minute of thinking, businesses may save time and thus money by skipping the step of typing letters, messages etc. But what will the quality be like? Some people definitely have “stranger” “not so clear” thoughts than others, I’m the best example for this. Will I have too much garbage written so that it would take me more time in correcting and rewriting than if I’d typed it right the way?

The main issue or asset, depending from the point of view, would be the fact that all of us will be logged as long as we wear such “thought converters”. We will have our own log files, almost complete log files, if they are going to be combined with what we publish on social networks.

After computers started reading (scanners, OCR) and understanding voices (like Amaozon’s recent Alexa for example), the next step will now be reading out our brains.

But not worries: unless in the future it will be able to do this without an implantation of a device or a remote reading out of our thoughts, will it bother us unless we really want it by choice? I don’t think so! Many of us post their thoughts already now without any thinking on social networks – ok, this sounds weird, but who did publish already things on Facebook out of a mood and without having made the necessary reflection or research?

What do you think? Dangerous or interesting or both?
